What do we offer?
Carnlough Walking Tours
I offer walking tours of Carnlough and Glenarm villages situated along the Coastal Route through County Antrim. For the curious traveller who wants stay a while and explore.
The Carnlough tour begins in the Heritage Hub at Carnlough Town Hall which provides the perfect introduction to the historical, industrial, environmental and cultural history of The Glens of Antrim.
There is a 10 minute introduction inside the Hub introducing The Marchioness of Londonderry who brought about the development of Carnlough in the 1850s to support the operation of her limestone quarry. The tour takes a circular route around Carnlough Village taking in the harbour, the old railway path from the limestone quarry, the High Street, part of the old road before the building of William Bald’s Coast Road and finishes back at The Hub. It lasts an hour and a quarter and is mainly flat, on footpaths with one short hill. Tea/coffee available. (Also many eating places and takeaways nearby).
The Glenarm walk lasts an hour and focuses on the history of Glenarm and its links with the McDonnell family of Glenarm Castle. The walk is on footpaths and flat. Refreshments can be obtained most days from a takeaway van in the car park, Glenarm Castle cafe and or from 2 local tea rooms.
